O'Connells is a school under the ethos of the Christian Brothers with a long tradition in the area. It was the first school opened by the Chriatian Brothers and was officially opened by Daniel O'Connell in the presence of Blessed Edmund Rice.

The Daughters of Charity have been educating the children of this area for over 150 years. This legacy lives on in St. Vincents which is still run with the ethos of the sisters.
